Expanding the new prospects of carbon fiber! Montai has accelerated and enhanced the progress of the 10,000-ton carbon fiber project in Gansu Province! 


On July 8th, the construction site in Gan Zhou District of Zhangye City was bustling with activity. The construction of the 10,000-ton carbon fiber project by Gansu Nata New Materials was in full swing. Under the scorching summer sun, steel frames towered everywhere, sparks flew, various large-scale machinery operated in an orderly manner, and the front-line construction workers worked collaboratively, steadily advancing the processes of steel frame welding, component hoisting, pipeline layout, and core equipment installation. Seizing the favorable construction opportunity in summer, they accelerated the progress of the project construction at full speed.

At present, the main projects such as the carbonization workshop and the comprehensive power station have entered the final stage of construction. The installation and commissioning of supporting production equipment are also advancing simultaneously. A modern and high-end carbon fiber production base has taken shape. 


The project construction is advancing at full speed. 


This project is jointly promoted by Guangdong Modern High-tech Fiber Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group Co., Ltd. As the first 10,000-ton carbon fiber production base in Gansu Province, this project has a total investment of 2.77 billion yuan. The overall planning is divided into three phases for step-by-step construction. Once the project is fully completed and operational, it will achieve a large-scale production capacity of 24,000 tons of PAN-based carbon fibers per year. The products will cover multiple categories such as industrial grade and mid-to-high-end grade, and can be widely applied in high-end industries such as aerospace structural components, lightweight parts for new energy vehicles, large-scale wind turbine blades, and high-pressure hydrogen storage pressure vessels, precisely meeting the core material demands of the country's strategic emerging industries.

Cellulose carbon is known as "black gold" and "the king of new materials", and it is a key strategic material for supporting high-end manufacturing, defense industries and new energy industries. For a long time, China's high-end carbon fiber production capacity has been concentrated in the eastern coastal areas. The northwest region has always lacked large-scale and high-quality carbon fiber production capacity. The material demands of industries such as wind power, hydrogen energy and aerospace manufacturing in the region are highly dependent on external supply, with high logistics costs and slow supply chain response. This year, the 10,000-ton project of Nata New Materials has been implemented in Zhangye, which will directly fill the gap in the large-scale production of high-end carbon fibers in Gansu Province and rewrite the supply pattern of new materials in the northwest region.

From the perspective of the industrial ecosystem, this project will become the core engine for cultivating and expanding the new material industry chain in Gansu Province. Centering on the production环节 of carbon fibers, it can drive the aggregation of upstream industries such as polyacrylonitrile raw fibers, special spinning auxiliaries, and high-end equipment配套, and extend to downstream application fields such as composite material molding, wind turbine component manufacturing, automotive lightweight parts, and sports and leisure equipment. Gradually, a complete industrial chain of "raw fiber production - carbon fiber preparation - composite material processing - end application" will be established, promoting the upgrading and expansion of the local new material industrial cluster and accelerating the transformation of the regional industrial structure from traditional resource-based to high-tech and high value-added directions. 


Meanwhile, the abundant clean energy resources in Gansu Province provide a unique development advantage for the project. Carbon fiber production is a high-energy-consuming industry. By relying on the low-cost and stable green electricity supply in Zhangye, the project can effectively reduce production costs and enhance product competitiveness. This not only aligns with the green electricity consumption orientation of the country's "dual carbon" strategy but also provides nearby material support for the vast wind power, hydrogen energy, and rail transit markets in the northwest region, forming a virtuous industrial cycle of "green electricity + high-end materials + new energy applications".

As the project construction enters the final sprint stage, this new landmark in the northwest new materials industry is about to come into operation and yield results. It is not only a landmark project for the industrial transformation and upgrading of Zhangye, but also an important fulcrum for Gansu to seize the high-end materials market and integrate into the national new materials industrial layout, injecting lasting industrial momentum into the high-quality development of the regional economy.
