How is a good network fabric created? Our three-step production control method 


Polypropylene FDY web yarns and polypropylene web yarns are widely used in areas such as luggage straps, industrial fabrics, and filtration materials. As a purchaser, what you care about is not only the strength of the yarns, but also the uniformity of the network points, the stability between batches, and their performance in the subsequent weaving process. Below, from the production perspective, we will introduce how we control these two aspects. 


I. Network Point: Process Control of Density and Tensile Strength 

The core feature of the network yarn is to form regular interweaving points (network points) on the yarn bundle, thereby replacing the twisting process and making the yarn more neat and less prone to loosening. The quality of the network points directly determines the breakage rate during weaving and the surface effect of the fabric. 


Network point density control: The number of network points per meter needs to be matched according to the loom model and fabric structure. We use adjustable network nozzles and a stable air pressure supply system. During the production process, we take samples at regular intervals to test the network point density and ensure it fluctuates within the set range. Excessive density will increase weaving resistance, while too low density will result in insufficient adhesion. 


Network point durability: If the network points easily break apart when gently pulled, it indicates that the interweaving is insufficient. During the production process, we will conduct hand-tapping tests to simulate the force conditions during weaving, ensuring that the network points have certain resistance to friction and stretching. 


Uniformity inspection: In the same batch of filament bundles, whether the density of network points is uniform will affect the tension fluctuations during winding and weaving. We regularly use network point detectors or conduct manual sampling to conduct multi-point inspections along the length of the filament bundles, promptly identifying and adjusting process deviations. 


It should be noted that different subsequent processes have different requirements for the strength of the network points. The network threads used in jet looms need to have stronger network points to resist the impact of water flow; while the threads used in high-speed winding require moderate network point density and uniform distribution to reduce breakage. 


II. Batch Consistency and Process Monitoring 

When conducting batch purchases, the most worrying issue is the significant differences in color, fineness, and dot density between consecutive batches. To ensure the stability of the products, we adopt the following measures: 


Raw material batch traceability: For each batch of polypropylene FDY network yarn, the raw polypropylene materials and color masterbatches used are all recorded by batch number. After different batches of raw materials are delivered to the factory, they are first tested for indicators such as melt index and color to ensure stable processability before being put into production. 


Online monitoring and process sampling: During the spinning process, continuous monitoring of indicators such as fineness, elongation rate, and network point density is carried out. Samples are taken at regular intervals and wound onto the reel. They are compared with the reference sample under standard lighting conditions for color matching; at the same time, physical properties such as breaking strength and network point adhesion are also tested. Any fluctuations are promptly adjusted to the process parameters. 


Sample retention and batch comparison: For each batch of products, sample rings and property test records are retained. Before the production of the next batch, a comparison will be made with the sample from the previous batch regarding color, texture, and network point density to ensure no significant changes. For customers with higher requirements, continuous multi-batch test reports can be provided. 


Summary and Selection Suggestions 

When purchasing polypropylene FDY network yarn, it is recommended to confirm the following steps: 


Clarify the weaving process: Jet loom, warping frame loom or high-speed warping? Different equipment has different requirements for the density of network points and the strength. 


Request for recent batch samples: Compare the color, texture and uniformity of the network points of two to three batches. If possible, conduct on-machine weaving tests to observe the breakage rate and fabric appearance. 


Confirm the test report: The supplier is required to provide the test data for the recent batches, including fineness, strength, elongation rate, and network point density, etc.
